Raffles Hotel opened in 1887 in a rather sombre-looking old bungalow known as the Beach House. It was named after Sir Stamford Raffles, the founder of modern Singapore. Topical suites and sola topis were as much a part of Raffles Hotel's early style as bentwood tables and rattan chairs. Over the years the hotel has evolved into one of the world's most beloved grand hotels and welcomed innumerable celebrities, writers and royalty.
Rooms & Suites
A suite at Raffles Hotel is an experience that embodies absolute comfort and old-world opulence.
The essence of the Raffles experience lies in the 103 suites, dispersed over four wings buffered by fragrance-filled gardens and linked by breezy verandahs. Here, residents are pamperd in an atmosphere of privacy and intimacy, with large airy interiors inspired by the colonial bungalows of the early 20th century - lofty 14 ft ceilings, fine Oriental carpets and original etchings.
Grand Hotel Suites
Distinguished by their premier location in the Main Building, each of the seven Grand Hotel Suites is elegantly appointed with tastefully selected antiques and artwork. All suites feature private parlours, dining areas and verandahs.
Among these are the hotel's premier suites including the Sir Stamford Raffles and Sarkies Suites, each featuring two bedrooms, a private dining room that seats ten guests, a private parlour, pantry and verandah.
Personality Suites
Over the years, Raffles Hotel has been privileged to host some of the world's brightest luminaries from the entertainment, literary and political arenas.
The twelve Personality Suites (Joseph Conrad Suite, Rudyard Kipling Suite, Somerset Maugham Suite, Noel Coward Suite, Charlie Chaplin Suite, John Thomson Suite, Ava Gardner Suite, André Malraux Suite, Pablo Neruda Suite, James Michener Suite, Gavin Young Suite and John Wayne Suite) are posthumous tributes to some of the hotel's dearest friends and are distinguished by the specially sourced celebrity memorabilia placed within each suite. All suites feature private parlours and dining areas.
Courtyard & Palm Court Suites
The Courtyard and Palm Court Suites are among those closest to the lush flora of the hotel, lending these suites an unmatched ambience of tranquility.
With 14-foot ceilings and elegant period furnishings, including oriental carpets on the teak, marble and tiled floors, each suite exudes warmth and character. All suites feature private parlours and dining areas.
