Museums

Asian Civilisations Museum
As its name suggests, the Asian Civilisations Museum focuses on the heritage of Asian cultures. The first wing (ACM I), located at Armenian Street, is a meticulously restored neo-classical building dating back to 1910.

Opening Hours: Mon 1pm to 7pm; Tue to Sun 9am to 7pm; late night opening on Friday, free admission from 6pm to 9pm. Getting There: ACM I - From City Hall MRT Station (NS25/EW13), walk towards Stamford Road and turn into Armenian Street. Click here to view MRT route map. ACM II - From City Hall MRT Station (NS25/EW13), walk along St Andrew’s Road, past St Andrew’s Cathedral, City Hall and Supreme Court. Walk into Old Parliament Lane. ACM II is on the left after The Arts House.

Changi Chapel & Museum
A beacon of hope for the hopeless. The Changi Chapel, housed within the open-air courtyard of the Museum, is a symbolic replica of the many chapels built during the Japanese Occupation.

Open: 9.30am to 4.30pm (daily unless otherwise advised). Getting There: Take SBS bus 2 from Tanah Merah MRT station (EW4). Alight at the bus stop right in front of Changi Chapel and Museum (after Changi Women's Prison/Drug Rehabilitation Centre).

Chinatown Heritage Centre
Life of the ethnic Chinese in early Singapore was simple and almost everyone lived in rented cubicles of shophouses, which were often overcrowded and disease-stricken.

Open: 9am - 8pm (Mon-Thu), 9am - 9pm (Fri-Sun). Last Admission is one hour before closure. Getting There: First take the MRT to City Hall Station (EW13/NS25) and then transfer to Chinatown Station (NE4) or take bus service no. 61, 80, 197 from North Bridge Road.

Step back into 14th century Singapore with a little help from the 21st century! At this museum, life-size figures, rare artefacts and state-of-the-art technology bring the sights, sounds and smells of bygone Singapore to life.

Open: 9am - 7pm daily (last entry at 6.30pm). Getting There: Take the Sentosa Bus from Habourfront Centre Interchange (just next to Harbourfront MRT station). On Sentosa, take the bus on the Blue or Green Line.

Malay Heritage Centre
There is no site more appropriate for the Malay Heritage Centre than the Istana Kampong Glam – previous home of Malay royalty.

Open: Museum: Mondays: 1pm – 6pm, Tuesdays to Sundays: 10am – 6pm (Last entrance at 5.30pm), Istana Compound: 9am – 9pm (Daily), Cultural Show: 3 timeslots daily: 10am, 11.30am and 3.30pm Getting There: First take the MRT to Bugis Station (EW12) or take bus service no. 7, 32, 51, 63, 80, 145 197 from North Bridge Road, bus service no. 2, 7, 12, 32, 33, 51, 63, 80, 130, 133, 145, 197 from Victoria Street or bus service no. 10, 14, 16, 70, 100, 107, 196, 401 from Beach Road.

Singapore Art Museum
Home to the national art collection of Singapore, the Singapore Art Museum resides in a brilliantly restored historic school building (the former St Joseph’s Institution). Opened in 1996, the museum has 13 galleries and over 4,000 artworks, making it the largest collection of 20th century Southeast Asian art in the region.

Open: Mon - Sun: 10am - 7pm. Getting There: Take the MRT to Dhoby Ghaut (NS24) or City Hall Station (NS25/EW13) and walk towards Bras Basah Road.

Singapore Philatelic Museum
Both stamp and non-stamp collectors will delight in the extensive collection of local and international stamps, and first day covers housed in this quaint building dated back to 1907.

Open: 1pm to 7pm (Mon), 9am - 7pm (Tue - Sun). Getting There: Take the MRT to City Hall Station (NS25/EW13) and walk towards Coleman Street.
